Most organisations have budgets to train managers & other staff in the use of specific computer systems.  For some, this training will be a traumatic experience.  Managers who are usually confident and at ease with the normal demands of their position, can find themselves frustrated with their speed of learning, and less than enthusiastic for the use of that system. Yet hands-on training may be required of them!

One of the most cost-effective preliminaries to any such detailed training is Computer Skills for Managers from R B Consultancy, which uses two broad conclusions drawn from practical business experiences:

  • The less you have to think about what your fingers are doing on the keyboard, the quicker you will learn the specific skills associated with your particular computer routines

  • The broader the initial understanding of  how any computer system can be of help to you, the more easily you will be able to relate to the specific features of your particular routines

This two-day course includes the following modules:

  • What computers can do for you

  • Keyboard & mouse skills

  • Computer buying-decisions

  • Creating a business plan

  • Presentation and reporting

  • Security

  • Simple word processing

  • Databases at your fingertips

  • Workshop session

  • Review

The course recognises that computers are an essential part of business life, and that in many organisations there are not the specialists that can be important in making a wide range of management decisions. The course should help you to get a feel for what various computer systems are capable of (in terms of the benefits they can give to you), and to gain hands-on experience of representative routines.

Hands-on sessions will use examples that illustrate many of the techniques you can employ across a wider range of computer systems, and so will reduce your effort and enhance your flexibility for the future.

In particular, we will consider areas which are important to almost all managers: the production of regular Budgets or Forecasts or Business Plans, together with the easy creation of memos and other simple documents. The course will conclude with a workshop session, in which you may further improve your keyboard skills or get some help in designing your own business plans.
