Introductory, intermediate and advanced training courses may be provided for these packages:

  • Microsoft Office (2003 & earlier)
  • Angoss SmartWare
  • OpenOffice
  • Other packages by arrangement

Course duration can vary, but typically will be 3 days introduction and a further 3-4 days on more advanced topics, ideally run some 2-4 weeks after the introductory course.

Typical components for introductory training can include:

  • General Windows awareness (checking for confidence in general Windows skills, looking at the usefulness of many Windows facilities, considering the broad strengths of each component package, and the usefulness of HTML files in the modern office)
  • Word processing (creating documents, flexibility in presentation, finding & replacing text, copying & moving information, using spellchecker, etc., starting to make things automatic, handy hints)
  • Spreadsheet (basic skills & concepts, building a spreadsheet, what-if analysis, top-ten formulas, improving presentation, printing, graphics/charting, starting to make things automatic, handy hints)
  • Database (basic skills & concepts, creating your first database, entering/amending/deleting records, improving screen presentation, finding the right information, getting reports, starting to make things automatic, handy hints)
  • Links between files (setting up links between different parts of the system)
  • Other facilities (e.g. with Microsoft Office, Outlook or PowerPoint; with Angoss SmartWare, a brief introduction to RAD - Rapid Application Developer)

Typical components for advanced training can include:

  • Word processing (improving presentation still further, including the use of styles & tables where relevant; mail-merging; more on macros, maths facilities, etc., facilities for larger documents, including tables of contents, indexes, outliner, etc., where relevant; and file management)
  • Spreadsheet (a systematic approach to the formulas at your disposal; getting control of the screen, printing, etc.; working with lists, and doing filtering, sorting, consolidating, and producing sub-totals; more on making things automatic )
  • Database (more flexibility in reporting; importing & exporting; more power through macros & programming; considering inter-related files; mail-merging; coping with changes)
  • Other facilities (a workshop session to concentrate on some of the specific questions raised by those on the training course)
